Is a wetsuit waterproof? How does it keep you warm?
A wetsuit is not completely waterproof. Unlike a drysuit, a wetsuit is designed to allow a small amount of water to enter while providing thermal insulation.
The neoprene material creates an insulating layer that traps a thin layer of water between your body and the suit. Your body heat warms this water layer, helping reduce heat loss and keep you comfortable in cold water.
Water may enter slightly through areas such as the collar, cuffs, and zipper, but the snug fit and neoprene thickness help minimize water circulation and maintain warmth.
